JAIPUR: A 19-year-old coaching student — pursuing medical entrance exam studies in Kota — ended his life by hanging in his rented room on Thursday. It’s the 26th suicide by a coaching student at this famous destination for medical and engineering entrance exam preparations this year, highlighting the extreme stress of studies which a growing number of teenagers are succumbing to.

Sub inspector of Kunhadi police station Chandrakant Singh said who investigating the case that Varun lived as a paying guest in house number — 81 in Adarsh Nagar for the past three months. “He had come to Kota in August after completing his senior secondary education. He was studying in a coaching institute to prepare for ACPMT,” the officer said.
The landlady found him hanging around 9am on Thursday. “She went to his room to call him for breakfast and tea, but he didn’t respond to repeated calls. She peeked through a window and found him hanging from the fan. She informed the police. The door was broken open,” said the officer.
The police informed the family members who were on their way to Kota till the reports last came in. “We have put the body in the mortuary for a postmortem examination. His suicide note doesn’t explain as to why exactly he took the extreme step. We will launch an investigation,” said the officer.
